We celebrated both boys' birthdays while on the road.
Jacob turned 3 at the very beginning of our trip. We started the day with a waffle, chocolate sauce and candles.
I brought along some gifts to open. Ones that we had received in a package earlier from the states. Thank you Tim, Sandra, Khalid and Jordan for the transformers!
Jacob's birthday was on Sunday and were able to go attend an International Fellowship for worship. After naps we joined some friends and went to the Sunday market to eat 'street' food and look at all the handmade stuff being sold. Jacob spent much of the day saying (in his 3 year old way) "happy birthday!". He also had lots of chances to practice saying "free" and holding up three fingers.
Josiah's birthday was at the very end of the trip. In fact, for a little over the week the boys were 3 and 4 which meant they got to be in childcare classes together while we were traveling. It was a great set-up for all of us!
We started Josiah's birthday with donuts at Dunkin Donuts (one of the benefits of having a birthday while traveling.)
The day was pretty full but that evening a bunch of friends joined us for dinner at a pasta place to celebrate. We had yummy food, Josiah got to pass out glow bracelets and blew out more candles. At one point Josiah went with Jared to use the restroom. He came back so excited saying, "Guess what mommy. A man asked me how old I was and I got to say 5!". We ended the evening with a stop my McDonalds for ice cream cones.
We returned home the day after Josiah's birthday and the festivities continued. We had three packages from the states waiting for us (thanks you all!!) full of more birthday goodies, and even celebrated again on Sunday with more friends here in our city. The boys definitely did have memorable birthdays, even if to me as the mom it seemed a bit out of the ordinary. I am thankful for super flexible and, usually, content kids!
