Adventures With Two Little Boys

Yesterday was the first time I (Kelly) ventured out on my own with Josiah and Jacob. Up until now Jared and I often take turns going out and running errands or we go as a family. Yesterday was a crazy morning, we had some adventures, but made it home all in one piece. There is an indoor play area over in one of the busier parts of town and that is where we headed. The three of us got into a taxi outside our apartments, Jacob in the front carrier and Josiah holding my hand. After a long ride, the roads were busier than normal, we arrived at a very busy shopping area. The three of us then walked through the isles of shops in search of the play area, I could not remember exactly where it was. Josiah was doing a great job holding my hand and of course talking about everything he saw. We quickly drew attention and had people following us. Over and over again I heard comments regarding our entourage. People love to touch our two boys and this was the first time we were out where Josiah was not up in our arms or in the backpack carrier. Josiah often reminded people that he did not want to be touched. Well we made it to the play area and soon discovered that it was extremely busy as well. I then realized that it was a holiday time and so everyone was out and about. Josiah did have a great time playing, even if it was rather overwhelming for his mom. At one point he took off his socks somewhere in the play area and we had an interesting hunt for them. They finally turned up in the ball pit, where some kids discovered them. As we were leaving we stopped at a train kiddie ride. Josiah was thrilled, so thrilled that it was a bit difficult to leave when the ride stopped. By this point we were all a bit warn out and Josiah ended up crying as we left, rode a taxi home, walked back up to our apartment, undressed, and got lunch together. During this return trip we had multiple opportunities to talk with people as well, which often meant people desiring to touch Josiah. This was not something he was at all interested in. It was an adventure for all of us and a reminder to me of how we all still need some time getting used to this different place.

Josiah on the train outside the play area. I happened to have my camera in an easily assessible spot.
Jacob often misses naps if we go out, although he does sleep a lot in the front carrier. Here is one of those times where he fell asleep in the front carrier then I layed him down at home, disturbing him as little as possible.
We tend to be home a lot. Yesterday afternoon Josiah found a great way to pass the time. We have plenty of boxes lying around from things we have bought to set up house.

One more box picture.

I still cannot believe what a happy baby Jacob is. He spends so much time just smiling and laughing, by himself on the floor, in the playpen, or in his bouncy seat. Here he was having some tummy time and keeping himself occupied looking at the pictures on his blanket. (This was while Josiah was running around hitting a ping pong ball, over and over again.)

One last picture from bathtime today. The camera got a bit fogged up from the steam in the bathroom but it is still a cute picture. Not the easiest way to give baths but great fun for Josiah. Mom tends to get really wet!
