Happy Birthday Jacob

Today was Jacob's first birthday. If you don't mind, I am going to do a bit more reminiscing. Jacob was born in Kentucky, since then he has been to at least 6 different U.S. states, in three different countries, and been on more airplanes, buses, and other forms of transportation than I can possibly count. He has slept in everything from a box, a drawer, the floor, to an actual crib (which we now have). This little guy is so easy going too, except for a strong stubborn streak that shows up from time to time. I think he had to be easy going, with a very active older brother and being born within a very busy time for his parents. Jacob is also very cuddly. There are many times, even now, that he will come over and just want to sit with me, and gives me a hug,or a kiss (which sometimes turns into a bite, something we are working on). God has blessed us so much with Jacob. He brings us joy daily, and is often comforting in his mannerisms. What a blessing at an also busy time in our lives, definitely causes me to slow down and enjoy. Happy birthday Jacob! We thank God for how he has made you and how he continues to mold you and pray that as you grow you would glorify God with all your heart.
Back to today... Because Jared was gone, it was a pretty uneventful first birthday, we'll make up for it next week. First thing, after getting up and getting dressed, Jacob was inducted into the "sit in from of the refrigerator to drink your milk" club. Josiah has a tradition, a trained tradition, to sit in front of the refrigerator while he drinks. That tends to be the first place he goes each morning. Jacob joined for the first time this morning. I think he enjoyed it, although he really enjoyed just playing with the sippy cup, in between sips.

Then we had rice porridge (at least that is what we call it, it is milk and rice cooked together on the stove) for breakfast and stuck a candle in Jacob's. I think he was a little stunned and confused by the candle in his bowl of food, us singing to him, and camera flashing, as you can see in the next photo.

He was also very interested in eating, more than having us sing to him. Josiah helped out by blowing out the candle.
The rest of the day included flowers for Jacob from our househelper, a call from Grammy, and lots and lots of rounds of "Happy Birthday to You". We are treating this day as a warm up for the party day on Tuesday. I will be sure to include some pictures from that day.
