Happy Independence Day!

4th of July happened to fall on a Monday, our designated 'day-off'. We did some things to try to make it special.
After breakfast, the boys made American flags out of felt and glitter and we made a couple phone calls. Oh, I also played some patriotic music and a recording of the pledge of allegiance. I did not realize that it was the first time Josiah had ever even heard the pledge of allegiance, oops. Guess that is part of what schooling is for.
Then we went on a bike ride to our favorite coffee shop.
We ordered popcorn and a special "Canada Day Float". Did you know that July 1st is Canada Day? Our local coffee shop is owned by Canadian's. They have slowly been educating us on all things Canadian :).
This boy is growing so, so fast!
The extent of our holiday decorations.
That evening we had our first ever home barbecue. Jared bought a small metal, box barbecue and we fixed hamburgers. They were great and the weather cooperated, it was a super sunny day.
Emma helping me set the table.
Jacob was having a super tired day and ended up sleeping through dinner. He ate when he woke up, while we got ready to have friends over for a dessert potluck. I think we had 12 people come over that evening and it was super fun to sit and visit, and eat lots and lots of goodies. Kids even got to stay up until almost 9:00 pm!
Today the boys took cupcakes, decorated with stars, to school to give their teachers.
A simple day filled with many things to be thankful for.
Happy 4th of July!
